BRCIC Welcomes New Executive Director
Patty Rives Brings Experience and Commitment to the Community to New Role
March 14, 2022
The Baton Rouge Crisis Intervention Center, BRCIC, is pleased to announce licensed clinical social worker Patty Rives, MSW, LCSW, as the Center’s new executive director. With more than 20 years of experience in fields of crisis prevention and intervention, as well as suicide prevention, intervention and postventions, Rives is a familiar face at BRCIC.

Rives worked from 2001-2008 for the BRCIC under the long-time leadership of Dr. Frank Campbell who now serves as Executive Director Emeritus. During her previous time at the Center, she provided training for the volunteer crisis counselors, support for the 24-hour crisis line The Phone, and clinical support by working with clients impacted by crisis and suicide loss. She also worked as the Community Outreach Coordinator, providing community trainings and outreach through the Local Outreach to Suicide Survivors, LOSS, team.

“I am so grateful that Patty Rives will serve in this leadership capacity. She is an internationally recognized content expert and gifted trainer. Her lifelong knowledge of the community will further enhance the agency’s commitment to making all communities suicide safer. I look forward to her impact on our programs and continued future success. We still have much to offer and Patty will build on our more than fifty years of excellence and service in this field,” said Dr. Frank Campbell.

A Baton Rouge native, Rives says she is honored to return to the BRCIC in her new role.

“There are some times in life when we need to choose which direction to take — a fork in the road. I reflect on the time in my life that I returned to graduate school mid-life, leading me into a new vocation in the field of social work, thus leading me to an internship and ultimately being hired at the Baton Rouge Crisis Intervention Center over 20 years ago,^rdquo; said Patty Rives. “I feel honored every day being part of the services we offer to people looking for support with their grief and loss from a loved one’s suicide, as well as providing the community awareness and education through our suicide awareness and training programs.”

Rives’ career also includes time with LivingWorks Education, Inc., an international suicide prevention training organization located in Calgary, CA, where she worked from 2008-2021. There, she worked in various roles as a trainer, coach, instructor, and consultant for their suicide prevention programs, and as the Executive VP of Training from 2019-2021. Rives also served as an adjunct instructor and faculty liaison for master-level students at the LSU Graduate School of Social Work.

She continues to provide trainings for Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training, ASIST, and safeTALK, among other trainings supported by the BRCIC. The trainings provide community awareness and education for suicide prevention and intervention.

BRCIC began on the campus of LSU in 1970 as a student organization and has grown to a nationally recognized innovator in crisis support services and training. BRCIC is focused on continuing to provide its weekly bereavement services to those who have suffered traumatic loss, while developing a new program for training others in suicidology to become the local experts in their communities.
